It was the clash of the two Eddie’s and their sides, Letterkenny Rovers and Glencar Celtic to battle it out on May 4th to see who would advance from the area final of the Voodoo Cup.
The game kicked off with a promising start as both teams showcased their attacking prowess in the opening 10 minutes, with chances aplenty but nothing decisive materialising. However, it was Rovers who began to assert their dominance, stringing together impressive passing sequences and applying pressure on Glencar's defense.
Despite some long-range efforts from both sides, including a 30-yard shot from Rovers' Kealan Dunleavy and a counter-attack initiated by Artem Tymoshchenko, the first half ended in a deadlock with the scoresheet reading 0-0.
The second half saw Rovers come out strong, with Jason Doherty narrowly missing a chance early on. However, it was Glencar who broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, capitalizing on a possession loss by Rovers to take the lead through Pajo Rafferty's clinical finish.
As Glencar gained momentum, they doubled their lead in the 71st minute, courtesy of Jack Dwyer's close-range header following a defensive mix-up by Rovers. Despite Rovers' valiant efforts to claw their way back into the game, Glencar held firm, withstanding a late surge from their opponents.
In the dying moments of the game, Rovers managed to pull one back through Pavlo Shevaniuk's header from a free kick delivered by Luke Parke, but it proved to be too little, too late as Glencar emerged victorious.
Final Score Letterkenny Rovers 1 - 2 Glencar Celtic
Best wishes to Glencar Celtic who advance to the next round.
