Letterkenny Rovers bowed out of the Voodoo Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Oldtown Celtic in the second round at Leckview.

Rovers started strongly and dominated much of the first half with possession and chances but were wasteful in front of goal. Their pressure finally told just before the break when clever play from Artem Tymoshchenko opened space for Volodymyr Kovalchuk, who finished well in the 44th minute to give the hosts a deserved lead.

The second half saw Rovers continue on the front foot, with Oisin McMenamin forcing a save from a header before Kovalchuk struck the crossbar. However, Oldtown drew level from the penalty spot after a handball was awarded, and Kevin McGrath calmly converted. Celtic were reduced to ten men shortly after but Rovers, despite more pressure, struggled again with their finishing until the 81st minute when Tymoshchenko created another opening down the left and substitute Ibrahim Olayode blasted Rovers back in front.

Just when it looked like being decisive, Giovanni Peoples curled in a stoppage-time free kick to force extra-time. With no further goals, the tie went to penalties, where Oldtown edged it 4-3 to book their place in the next round.
