Letterkenny Rovers took a little bit to settle, but from about 10 mins onwards were in control and causing the majority of the threats from attacks and set pieces.
12 min ball fell nicely edge of 18 for Conor Tourish but just couldn’t get a clean strike on it.
14 min great diagonal ball from Conor Tourish to the right side of 18yd box ends up finding Zach Gorman who breaks through and strikes it across the goal going wide.
Then a free kick from Joel Gorman nicely curled in behind to the left of the goals but just too far for Conor Tourish who came running through to get a head in it.
22 min Carndonagh got the break against the run of play with a counter attack from deep in their half having big numbers quickly progress forward pressuring the Rovers defense.
The shot from Carndonaghs Cade Cooke took a deflection ending in the goal.
27 min a good combination with Letterkenny Rovers Nathan Plumb and Gareth Doherty just couldn’t be directed to goal by Nathan on the final touch.
32 min Nathan plumb delivered a great ball from the left wing to the back post, Zach Gorman got a head to it but just couldn’t direct to goal.
Carndonagh came close again on 43 mins with a fine strike by Will Quinn from 25 yards out driven hard and low to the left corner. Rovers shotstopper Blake Forkan was at full stretch and got just enough on it to touch the ball off the post and prevent another goal.
On 45 min Rovers got a break and penalty awarded for a foul on Conor Tourish just inside the box.
Zach Gorman stepped up and took the penalty scoring and leveling the game at half time 1-1.
The second half seen Rovers pick up where they left off dominating large portions of the game.
64 min a free kick from Gareth Doherty towards the back post ended up coming in to Ryan Lonergan 20 yards out, only to be driven over the bar.
66 min great work by Zach Gorman weaving with the ball into the left of 18 yard box, turning and setting Gareth Doherty up for the shot which was quickly closed down by the Carndonagh defense.
81 min a transition from Rovers seen Conor Tourish lob the back line for Aidy Delap to run on to and drive towards goal with shot hit direct at the keeper somehow finding its way through the legs and into the net.
Carndonagh had one last chance in the dying minutes with Cain Burkes effort from the right just outside the 18 yard box. It was struck well but veered left hitting the outside of the far post.
Rovers held tight for the final moments of injury time to take a deserved win.
