FAI National League Group 2 | Leckview Park | 10 October 2026
Letterkenny Rovers fell to a 3–0 defeat against St. Francis at Leckview Park on Saturday afternoon. Rory Garvey opened the scoring before Daniel Hickey struck twice for the visitors, who held firm against an improved Rovers performance after the break.
Played in dry but blustery conditions, the fixture attracted an attendance of 283 at Leckview Park.
Both sides took time to settle, with little goalmouth action in the opening eight minutes. Rovers threatened first when a wind-assisted free-kick from the left curled towards the back post, forcing visiting goalkeeper Colin McCabe to lift the ball away.
Moments later, the home side came close to breaking the deadlock. Joel Gorman’s blocked effort fell to Adrian Delap just outside the penalty area, and the Rovers captain curled a shot towards the far corner, only to see it strike the right-hand upright.
St. Francis began to find their rhythm, with Jamie Gray moving the ball wide to Dylan Stack in the 13th minute. Stack stepped inside and struck an effort that forced Patrick McGarvey to punch clear. Gray then cut in from the right a minute later, but his curling shot drifted wide.
Rovers responded with a free-kick towards the back post that was headed behind for a corner, although Gorman’s resulting delivery was gathered by McCabe.
The visitors then enjoyed a sustained spell of pressure. Ryan Shields cleared a dangerous Gray cross behind, with Padraic Gilsenan heading away the subsequent corner. In the 24th minute, Evan Farrell’s long throw found Hickey on the edge of the box, where he controlled on his chest and volleyed, drawing a save from McGarvey.
The breakthrough arrived a minute later. Garvey received the ball centrally, worked his way past the Rovers defence and fired into the right side of the net to put St. Francis ahead.
The visitors almost doubled their advantage on the half-hour. Farrell’s delivery found Hickey free at the back post, and his ball into the middle picked out Abdurrahman Bouderbala, who headed wide from a promising position.
Shields intervened again in the 36th minute, clearing Garvey’s low cross after a break down the left. However, St. Francis extended their lead a minute later when Hickey found space around 30 yards from goal and sent a fine strike beyond McGarvey’s reach.
Rovers nearly pulled a goal back before the interval. After his corner was cleared back to him, Gorman curled an effort towards the far corner, forcing McCabe into a full-stretch save. The visitors went into half-time with a 2–0 lead.

Rovers returned with greater purpose and moved the ball more effectively in the second half. In the 49th minute, Brendan McCafferty delivered from the left and Gorman challenged as McCabe failed to gather cleanly, with appeals for a foul going unanswered.
Luke Parke provided several deliveries from the right as Rovers sought a route back into the contest, but the St. Francis defence dealt well with the balls into the area.
The visitors remained dangerous at the other end. In the 59th minute, Conor Behan picked out Stack around seven yards from goal, but his effort struck the crossbar. Three minutes later, Gray got a shot away after collecting a long ball on the left, with McGarvey gathering.
Rovers fashioned another good opening in the 68th minute through Shane McNamee. Receiving the ball to feet on the right, he worked his way inside and struck a low effort only for McCabe to produce another excellent save.
St. Francis made the result secure in the 77th minute. A Rovers mistake in midfield allowed Hickey to break into the right side of the penalty area, and he fired past McGarvey for his second goal of the afternoon.
Zach Gorman delivered from the right in the 84th minute, but McCabe collected well as Rovers continued to battle for a consolation. Hickey had another opportunity in stoppage time, only to see his effort blocked.
Despite a more encouraging second-half display and chances that tested McCabe, Rovers were unable to find the net, with St. Francis taking the points through Garvey’s opener and Hickey’s brace.
