Letterkenny Rovers 8 - 0 Swilly Rovers

Letterkenny Rovers powered their way into the third round of the Brian McCormick Cup with a commanding 8-0 victory over Swilly Rovers at Leckview, showcasing clinical finishing and sustained attacking pressure throughout the match.

The hosts started strongly with Lee McMonagle opening the scoring in the second minute, cleverly lobbing the Swilly goalkeeper to put Rovers ahead. McMonagle came close again shortly after with a powerful shot crashing off the upright. On ten minutes, Joel Gorman’s corner found Dean McCarry charging in to head the ball firmly into the net, doubling the lead.

Swilly tried to respond but faced a resilient Rovers defence and incisive attacks. Shortly before the break, Joel Gorman provided a precise through ball to his brother Zach Gorman, who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-0.

The second half continued in similar fashion. Simon McGlynn extended the lead on the hour mark after rounding the goalkeeper following a clever pass from Nathan Plumb, marking his first goal of the match. Moments later, McMonagle scored his second after weaving past defenders and finishing confidently for 5-0.

The sixth came soon after when a powerful Zach Gorman shot was spilled by the keeper, allowing McGlynn to react quickest and tap in, completing his brace.

Rovers’ dominance persisted, and around the 85th minute substitute Adejide Alawiye linked well with Shane McNamee before finishing neatly. McNamee then sealed the emphatic victory two minutes later, receiving a clever pass from McMonagle to finish calmly.
