Ulster Junior Cup preliminary round

Letterkenny Rovers 3–1 Clonmany Shamrocks

Leckview Park, 26 October 2025

Letterkenny Rovers advanced to the first round of the Ulster Junior Cup with a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Clonmany Shamrocks in testing windy conditions at Leckview Park. The swirling diagonal wind made control and set-pieces unpredictable, but both sides adapted admirably.

Rovers took an early lead after nine minutes when Joel Gorman picked out Simon McGlynn on the left. The winger drove into the box and finished low and across the keeper. Clonmany equalised on 28 minutes through Jamie McKinney, who struck low across goal from the left edge of the area.

The home side restored their advantage before half-time when Joel Gorman’s 41st-minute free-kick from the right was expertly flicked home by Lee McMonagle at the near post.

After the interval, Clonmany pressed strongly but found Mark McGinley in commanding form, dealing confidently with a series of high deliveries and corners. Rovers sealed the win on 74 minutes when Shane McNamee’s low drive from 25 yards found its way through a crowd and into the net.

Despite the conditions, both sides produced an entertaining contest—Rovers showing composure and clinical finishing, while Clonmany worked tirelessly and troubled from set-pieces throughout.

Scorers: McGlynn 9’, McMonagle 41’, McNamee 74’ (Rovers)
