Letterkenny Rovers 0–6 Fanad United

Letterkenny Rovers endured a difficult afternoon at Leckview Park as Fanad United secured a convincing victory in good conditions on Sunday, 1 November.

Rovers threatened early when Nathan Bonner headed narrowly wide at the back post from a third-minute corner. However, Fanad took the lead when Davin Blake brilliantly saved Daibhid Lynch’s initial effort, only for Edward O’Reilly to finish the rebound at the back post.

Fouad Bashar then played Yanga Madolo through the middle, but Rovers were unable to turn the opening into a shot. Fanad continued to create chances, with Blake saving from Peter Carr before O’Reilly headed home a right-wing cross in the 22nd minute to double the visitors’ advantage.

Blake made further impressive stops to deny Ronan Gallagher and O’Reilly, while Cormac Dunleavy flicked an effort wide at the other end. Gallagher added Fanad’s third in the 38th minute, finding the corner from inside the penalty area to leave Rovers trailing 3–0 at the break.

Two goals shortly after the restart put the game beyond Rovers. An uncleared cross resulted in an own goal in the 49th minute, before Gallagher struck again a minute later. Blake continued to produce important saves, denying O’Reilly at the back post and getting a vital hand to an inswinging Charlie McAteer corner.

McAteer completed the scoring in the 69th minute with a well-taken header from Carr’s left-wing cross. Rovers kept searching for a response, with TJ McMorrow sending a long-range effort narrowly over late on, but Fanad finished deserving winners.
