Published on 5 April 2024 at 12:52

Our Under 10 team have travelled to Spain for a weekend of football in the Barcelona Cup which starts on Saturday 6th April. We will keep you up to date with their progress in what should be a great experience for all involved and we wish them well.

UPDATE FROM DAY 2 BARCELONA CUP

A good start this morning and a Quarter Final win with a score of 5 - 1. Up next is the semi final clash against Scottish side Salvesen FC

IT WASN'T TO BE.... but coming SECOND in an INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT is something to be incredibly proud of!!!!

The boys won 5 out of 6 of their games and dominated those games. Unfortunately Mount Merrion were the deserved winners but Rovers gave them an evenly matched game for a good part of the game.

The boys and coaches would like to thank their family and friends back home for the support and to the Donegal Underage League and our Treasurer Brian McCormick for the support on the sidelines. What an atmosphere it created for all!!!

UPDATE FROM DAY 1 BARCELONA CUP

Letterkenny Rovers 3 - 2 Leicester Celtic

A quick start for Rovers with a cracking shot from the edge of the box by Zach McKinley taking the lead at 4 minutes for Rovers.

Alfie Gallagher not soon after netted a lovely free kick from 25 yards to take Rovers to 2-0.
Leicester came back with a goal in the last minute of the first half and again quickly into the start of the second half. End to end action ensued for the next 10 minutes until the ball fell to James McLaughlin in front of goal and he fired it home for the win.

Two talented teams who had a 7am start and battled 20° temperatures 👏 👏

Letterkenny Rovers 4-0 Workington Reds

It was another quick start for the boys going 1-0 up in the first minute via James McLaughlin. With numerous other chances just falling short in the first half the boys got back in action in the second half with a goal from Charlie Lynch and the two final goals from Zach McKinley to end a well dominated match 4-0.

Currently topping the group the boys entered their final Group Stages Match at 17.40.

Letterkenny Rovers 5 v 2 Salvesen FC B

Rovers were caught off guard in the first minute to go 1-0 down but quickly got into their game, with majority possession and delivering goal after goal. Shane O Donnell brought it back to 1-1 and the boys continued with the goals with Charlie Lynch, Mason Oliver, Alfie Gallagher and Femi Gallagher delivering a wonderful goal "worldy" and another goal just 10 seconds later, but it was on the whistle and just out of time.

A fantastic day for the boys, where they top their group and go for placement of Top 8 tomorrow from 9.40am!!

Unreal boys, a proud club today.

Early Start again tomorrow with a Quarter Final. Good luck all!
