Letterkenny Rovers first team celebrate winning the League title for the second year in a row on 26th April 2026

Letterkenny Rovers were crowned Brian McCormick Premier Division champions on Sunday afternoon after a dramatic 2-1 victory away to Keadue Rovers at Central Park, sealing back-to-back league titles in the process. Keadue looked on course for a huge result after taking the lead just before the break, but late goals from substitutes Lee McMonagle and BJ Banda turned the game on its head and secured the title for the visitors.

Rovers started brightly and had the better of the early exchanges, creating a number of openings as they looked to settle quickly into the game. Shane Graham was called into action more than once in the opening spell for Keadue, while efforts from Padraic Gilsenan and Ryan Lonergan showed the intent from the visitors.

As the half wore on, Keadue grew into the contest and began to ask more questions in midfield, with Aidan McHugh and Peter McGee particularly influential for the home side. Their breakthrough arrived just before half-time when a well-delivered free-kick from Adam McCaffrey was met by McHugh, whose header found the net to give Keadue a 1-0 lead at the interval.

Letterkenny pushed hard after the restart with the urgency you would expect from a side chasing a title-winning result, but Keadue defended resolutely and continued to carry a threat on the break. Dean McCarry went close for Rovers, while at the other end Keadue nearly added a second through Peter McGee as the game remained finely balanced heading into the closing stages.

The turning point arrived late on when Rovers’ changes made the difference. With the game entering its closing moments, Adrian Delap delivered from the left and Lee McMonagle got on the end of it to head home the equaliser. Then, deep into stoppage time, Simon McGlynn sent over another dangerous cross and BJ Banda arrived at the back post to head in what proved to be the title-winning goal.

Keadue nearly forced one final twist when Pauric Neely struck the post in the dying seconds, but Rovers held on to spark celebrations at the final whistle. It was a dramatic finish to a hard-fought contest, with Keadue contributing fully to an excellent game, but it was Letterkenny Rovers who showed their character at the crucial time to retain the Premier Division crown.
