A brilliant day at Leckview Park

Leckview Park was full of football on Sunday 20th September as the Letterkenny Rovers U8 coaches welcomed 31 teams from across Donegal and Derry for the Letterkenny Rovers U8 Invitational, proudly sponsored by Century Cinema.

With morning and afternoon competitions, the young players had plenty of opportunities to show their skills, support their teammates and enjoy the occasion. Teams competed for the Cup, Shield, Vase and Bowl, with great football played in a fantastic spirit throughout the day.

Morning competition

The morning tournament was competitive from the first whistle, with impressive team play, great goals and individual skill on display.

There was a special moment for the Letterkenny Rovers U8 Colts, who lifted the Vase after a closely contested final against Milford went all the way to penalties. Maiden City won the Cup, Kilmacrennan lifted the Shield, and Cockhill Celtic took home the Bowl.

The independent referees selected Letterkenny Rovers’ Reon Moore as the morning Player of the Tournament.

Letterkenny Rovers won two of their three group games before their run ended in the semi-finals against Foyle Harps, who went on to win the Shield. CORE Academy took home the Cup, while Buncrana Hearts lifted the Vase.

Congratulations to Maiden City’s Finn Kivlehan, who was named afternoon Player of the Tournament.

Thank you to everyone involved

Most importantly, the tournament was played in a fantastic spirit. Thank you to all 31 teams, and to the coaches, players, parents and supporters who travelled to Leckview Park and helped make the day such a success.

A special thank you to Century Cinema for sponsoring the tournament and supporting underage football at Letterkenny Rovers.

We hope everyone enjoyed the day. We look forward to welcoming you back!
