Letterkenny Rovers’ Brian McCormick Cup campaign came to an end as Bonagee United claimed a 2–0 victory in the Area Final at Leckview Park on a warm afternoon in Letterkenny. Rovers produced sustained spells of pressure—particularly either side of half-time—but Bonagee goalkeeper Jason Quinn made a series of important saves before the visitors sealed the result late on.

The game opened at a lively pace, with David O’Donnell registering Rovers’ first effort after five minutes when his shot drifted wide of the right post following Conor Blaney’s high delivery into the area.

Bonagee threatened from a 13th-minute corner, with Conor Bonner meeting the delivery, but Rovers cleared the danger. Two minutes later, Kevin McGrath tested Bonagee goalkeeper Jason Quinn from the right, and the keeper made a fine save. The rebound fell to Blaney, whose effort across goal was also kept out by Quinn.

Bonagee had a free kick inside the Rovers penalty area on 21 minutes, but Rovers defended well to block Fintan Hasson’s attempt. The visitors took the lead six minutes later. Aidan McLaughlin collected the ball wide on the right before finding Hasson, who set himself on the edge of the box and placed a composed finish into the left corner of the net.

Rovers responded positively. O’Donnell’s long ball released Nathan Bonner on 31 minutes, but Quinn came quickly from his goal to gather. The home side began to build real momentum in the closing stages of the first half, with Jason Doherty, Cormac Dunleavy and O’Donnell all involved in a strong attacking spell that brought further saves from Quinn.

Dunleavy’s corner later fell to Gareth Temple at the far side, and Doherty’s follow-up effort was on target, only for Quinn to produce another excellent stop. Another Dunleavy corner then found Fouad Bashar, whose header drifted narrowly wide. Rovers were creating plenty of problems as half-time approached but trailed by a single goal at the break.

Second half

Rovers resumed on the front foot. Nathan Bonner’s dangerous ball was headed clear by Conor Bonner for a corner, and Quinn did enough with his fingertips to divert Dunleavy’s delivery away from danger.

A patient Rovers move on 48 minutes saw Bashar drive inside and thread a pass through to Adam Yisau, although the attack was halted when Yisau pulled up injured. Dunleavy then delivered another threatening ball on 53 minutes, with Bashar heading just wide of the left post.

The pressure continued as Rovers sent a dangerous cross into the box from the right on 62 minutes, but Quinn again intervened to prevent an incoming Rovers attacker from converting. Dunleavy was then released by a long ball on 69 minutes, beating three players as he drove forward, but his shot went wide to the left.

Bonagee doubled their advantage on 75 minutes. A break down the right led to an opening for substitute Conor Temple, who calmly passed his finish beyond the advancing Bryan da Costa from distance.

Rovers continued to press in search of a way back into the contest, but Bonagee held firm to secure the area final and advance.
