U14 Premier League
Letterkenny Rovers 2–0 Mulroy Academy
Letterkenny Rovers continued their strong league form with a well-earned victory over Mulroy Academy.
With little separating the sides throughout, two excellent set pieces proved decisive. Early in the second half, a well-delivered free kick from Ruari Gardiner created an opportunity that Mostafa Mostafa finished from close range to give Rovers the lead.
Mulroy responded positively, but Rovers stayed organised and disciplined defensively. Later in the half, James McCormick added a second with a superbly taken free kick to seal the win.
A solid defensive display ensured another clean sheet, rounding off a strong team performance and another important three points.
U14 Girls
DWL U14 League
Illistrin FC 2–5 Letterkenny Rovers
Letterkenny Rovers secured all three points in a competitive encounter.
Ena Culi opened the scoring on 17 minutes following a well-weighted through ball from Caitlin Crampsie. Illistrin responded quickly to level the match, but Faith Adun restored the lead just before half-time. Lana Culi then extended the advantage with a strong run into the box and a composed finish.
Illistrin added another well-taken goal to keep the contest alive, but Rovers continued to press forward. Alessia Perri produced an excellent run down the left before finishing confidently, and Aoise Diver capped the scoring with an outstanding long-range effort from 40 yards.
It was a strong overall team performance from Rovers, who now look ahead to continuing their development in the second phase of the DWL U14 League.
U12s
Letterkenny Rovers 4–1 Kilmacrennan Lurgy
Letterkenny Rovers got off to a perfect start when Nino Imnadze opened the scoring after just four minutes with a composed finish. Imnadze doubled the lead on 16 minutes with another well-taken strike, giving Rovers a strong early advantage.
Both teams created chances throughout the first half and competed well in midfield, producing an entertaining contest.
Kilmacrennan came out strongly after the break, with Rovers working hard defensively during a sustained spell of pressure. Despite this, Rovers struck again, with Nino completing a superb hat-trick with an excellent long-range effort to make it 3–0.
Ruby Peoples added a fourth goal on 51 minutes with a sharp finish from close range. Kilmacrennan continued to show great determination and created further chances, with Rovers’ defence—Victoria, Emily and Aobhinn—putting in a strong performance.
Rovers also looked threatening going forward, with Maeve McGlynn providing creativity and quality passing in midfield. Kilmacrennan were rewarded for their efforts on 56 minutes when Gracie Sweeney finished from close range.
It was a great team effort from two young sides who continue to develop and improve their game. Well done to everyone involved.
U12s Wanderers
Glenree Reds 4–0 Letterkenny Wanderers
Our Wanderers battled well against both the elements and a well-organised Glenree side. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, we went in 2–0 down at the break.
The team came out strongly in the second half and produced some excellent football, creating a number of good chances but were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Glenree added two further goals, including one during a positive spell for Wanderers.
Thanks to everyone at Glenree for their hospitality.
U12s Athletic
Letterkenny Athletic 0–0 Glenea United
Friday 12th June – Back Pitch, Aura
Letterkenny Athletic and Glenea United played out a hard-fought 0–0 draw on Friday evening in an evenly matched contest at the Aura back pitch.
Letterkenny created several strong opportunities throughout the game, with Matthew McDevitt coming close on a number of occasions, only to be denied by an excellent performance from the Glenea goalkeeper.
Ryan McLaughlin and Ivan Shula were a constant threat down the wings, using their pace and attacking intent to trouble the Glenea defence. At the other end, the Letterkenny defence stood firm and delivered a composed performance to secure a well-earned clean sheet.
Notable performances came from Nathan Pochylski and Ryan McLaughlin, while Player of the Match Matthew McDevitt stood out for his work rate and attacking contribution throughout.
U12 Premier
Letterkenny Crusaders 1 - 0 Bonagee Utd
Our 2015s came out on top in an entertaining encounter at Aura.
Crusaders started brightly, but Bonagee defended well to limit clear chances early on. Lopsy came close midway through the half, but the Bonagee goalkeeper made a good save. The breakthrough arrived shortly after, with Cody McGarrigle’s positive play leading to an unfortunate own goal.
Crusaders continued to press while staying alert defensively, with Bonagee carrying a threat on the break. Shay McLaughlin hit the side netting and Brandon Ndlovu headed just wide before the interval.
The second half was a tighter contest, with limited chances for both sides. Crusaders were awarded a penalty but were unable to add to their lead. Bonagee pushed strongly in the closing stages, creating a lively final period, but Crusaders held firm to secure their first win since stepping up to the Premier division.
