U12 SFAI Cup – Round 2
Carrick Rovers 0–1 Letterkenny Rovers
Our 2015s were on the road again as they travelled to Carrickmacross, Monaghan, to face Carrick Rovers in the second round of the SFAI Cup.
In near-perfect conditions, the home side started strongly. Brandon Ndlovu made a number of important challenges, while Hashim Chatha tipped an effort from distance over the bar. At the other end, Shay McLaughlin’s fine volley was blocked on the line.
A few tactical changes at the break helped Letterkenny get their passing game going. Shay was lively on the left, hitting the woodwork twice and drawing an excellent save from the Carrick goalkeeper following a lovely interchange with Cody McGarrigle. Blake Watson provided a similar attacking threat on the right as Letterkenny built momentum.
The breakthrough came midway through the half when Shay met a corner and fired into the net, much to the delight of the travelling supporters. Letterkenny continued to create opportunities, with Blake hitting a post and Zac Doherty’s fine effort striking the bar.
Both teams contributed to an entertaining final ten minutes. Carrick threatened on the break, while Blake, Vlad and Lopsey went close for Letterkenny before the final whistle.
It was a strong team performance, with everyone playing their part. Blake Watson was named Player of the Match for his impact in the second half.
Thank you to Carrick Rovers for a sporting contest and for the hospitality shown to us before and after the match. We wish them well for the season ahead.
