U16 Girls
Letterkenny Rovers 1–3 Gweedore United
Letterkenny Rovers U16s fell just short in an entertaining DWL Trophy Final against Gweedore United.
Rovers started brightly and played on the front foot from the opening stages. Hanna Stolarczyk and Aoise Diver both created good opportunities in front of goal, with the Gweedore goalkeeper making important saves to keep the scores level.
Gweedore opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, with Erin Ferry reacting quickest after an initial save from Kerry Wade.
Rovers came out after the break in search of an equaliser. Amy Moores and Hanna Stolarczyk combined well down the left, before Stolarczyk’s cross found Myrna Guzman, who finished brilliantly at the near post to level the match.
Gweedore regained the lead through a long-range effort from Ciara McFadden and added a third goal shortly afterwards.
Rovers continued to battle right to the final whistle. Faye Casburn, Lily Gallagher, Ella Doherty and Mmasichukwu Stan-Mako put in solid defensive performances, while Aoibhinn McLaughlin and Aisling McGinley linked up well further forward as the team looked for a way back into the game.
Congratulations to Gweedore United on their win, and thank you to everyone involved in the final.
Everyone in the U16 squad would also like to wish Aoibhinn McLaughlin a speedy recovery.
