U10 Rovers

Game 1

Letterkenny Rovers 2 - 0 Newcastle Town
Rovers Secure Final Spot with Hard-Fought Win

Letterkenny Rovers came out on top in a tense and physical battle against a tough Newcastle Town side, securing their place in the final with a 2–0 victory.

Kacper Niewiadomski led the line superbly, nearly giving Rovers an early lead with a powerful strike that forced an excellent save from the Newcastle goalkeeper. Rovers kept up the pressure, with Shay McLaughlin’s downward header drifting just wide, followed by Kacper rattling the post moments later.

Despite a few nervous moments at the back, Rovers limited Newcastle’s chances, with their best effort coming from a free kick that was comfortably dealt with by Hashim in goal. Just before the break, Kacper went close again, his low drive shaving the post as the teams went in level at halftime.

The second half saw Rovers step it up, as Newcastle began to tire. James McLaughlin thought he’d scored from a free kick, but the referee waved play on despite strong appeals. Rovers kept pushing, and James eventually broke the deadlock with a second free kick, this time taking a deflection on its way into the net.

Shortly after, James struck again from another set piece, sealing a well-deserved win for Rovers. Newcastle struggled to cope with the direct running of Jake, Shay, and Kacper, conceding several fouls under pressure.

Kacper Niewiadomski was named Man of the Match after a tireless all-round performance — not only a constant threat up front but also producing a crucial goal-line clearance in the dying seconds to preserve the clean sheet.A determined and disciplined team effort sees Rovers through to the final.

Game 2

Letterkenny Rovers 2 – 1 Windmill Starts
Rovers Crowned Champions After Dominant Display in Plate Final

Letterkenny Rovers capped off a brilliant week with a well-deserved trophy, defeating Windmill Stars 2–1 in a final that felt far more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

It took Rovers a few minutes to settle, but once they found their rhythm, they dominated possession and dictated the tempo. They forced a series of corners and nearly opened the scoring when Kacper Niewiadomski went close. Windmill threatened occasionally on the break but never truly tested Hashim in the Rovers goal.

The breakthrough came in style — James McLaughlin switched play to Shay McLaughlin on the left, who beat two defenders and delivered a pinpoint cross for Kacper to head home, sparking huge celebrations from the Rovers supporters.

Rovers kept the pressure on, and Shay nearly added a second but just failed to connect with a superb ball in from Kacper. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Rovers in control. Their pressure paid off again when James McLaughlin, full of energy throughout, finished confidently to double the lead.

To their credit, Windmill Stars defended bravely and pulled one back in the final minute after a lapse in concentration at the back. But Rovers held firm in the closing moments to secure a fantastic win — and with it, the trophy.

Every player played their part in a true team performance. With strong defending, intelligent movement, and relentless work rate, Rovers proved themselves worthy champions. The celebrations began as the team lifted Fred the Trophy — a fitting end to a superb tournament.

Exactly one year ago, Letterkenny Rovers faced heartbreak when Oxford knocked them out at this stage. Today, the story was completely different — with fire in their hearts and a score to settle, Rovers came out on top in a thrilling 4–1 victory!

Oxford fought back hard and capitalized on a keeper slip to equalize, but Rovers never lost belief.

Lucas then took over, turning on the jets and flying past defenders to make it 2–1 before halftime.

The second half saw Oxford push hard again, but Lucas wasn’t finished — he completed his hat-trick with two more clinical finishes, sealing a well-deserved 4–1 win.

Played on a fine surface at the Melvin Centre, the wide pitch suited Rovers perfectly. They made excellent use of the wings, building numerous attacks from out wide and creating plenty of chances throughout the match.

Despite their dominance, the first goal came in the 23rd minute when Ruari Gardiner finished superbly following an excellent cross from Filip Niewiadomski. Rovers took a deserved 1–0 lead into halftime.

Starting the second half with the same intent, Rovers doubled their advantage when Jonathan Bonia calmly slotted home a pass from Lorenzo Coelho. Dungiven responded with a quick counterattack goal in the 38th minute to pull one back.

Rovers then increased the tempo and were rewarded with three late goals in the final ten minutes. James Davidson struck a stunning 25-yard screamer that left the Dungiven keeper with no chance. Jack Robb added a fourth, tapping in a neat finish from a pass by Ethan Kearns. Blaine O’Brien wrapped up the scoring with a simple tap-in following a goalmouth scramble right on the stroke of full time.

Blaine also finished as the tournament’s top goal scorer with four goals in six games, an impressive return considering he mainly played at centre half.

The final score of 5–1 reflected an excellent team performance with some superb football on display. The week playing together clearly paid off, as the players’ familiarity helped build a strong, cohesive unit.

Just before the break, Ballymoney were awarded a penalty and converted to take a 3-1 lead into half time.

Rovers came out battling in the second half. Ashton Forrester went close with a back-post header, and Helden Carvalho forced a good save with a well-struck effort. Game 1

Letterkenny Rovers 1 - 2 St Oliver Plunkett

Letterkenny Rovers put in a strong and determined performance but narrowly lost 2-1 to St Oliver Plunkett in a closely contested match.

From the start, Rovers dominated possession with Kacper Niewiadomski leading the line superbly. Shay McLaughlin was denied early by a fine save from the Plunkett goalkeeper but soon after smashed home from the edge of the box following good work from Jake Devlin and Kacper.

Rovers continued to press and were unlucky not to extend their lead, creating numerous chances but unable to find the back of the net again. Just before halftime, Plunkett scored with their only shot of the half, as the ball slipped under goalkeeper Hashim Chatha to level the score.

Rovers pushed hard for an equaliser, with Brandon Ndlovu’s free kick headed off the line and James McLaughlin’s powerful shot tipped over by the keeper. Kacper was cruelly fouled as he broke through with the goal at his mercy, but the referee allowed play to continue.

Despite their relentless efforts, Rovers were unable to find the leveller. The team can be proud of their performance, showing great spirit and determination throughout.
