23rd April 2024

Illistrin 0 - 4 Letterkenny Rovers

A convincing win, though Rovers will feel they took too long getting settled into the game.

Illistrin did make it hard and were a threat throughout with several good opportunities missed.

Rovers got their much needed first goal 12 minutes in when the ball was shot about the Illistrin goal mouth with a number of players having efforts but it was Ronan Ward who found the target slotting it into the right corner just out of reach of the keeper.

The second came on 24 minutes when Thalji Al Daher threaded a great ball through the middle for the perfectly times run of Colm Og Breathnach to get to and finish.

On the 31st minute it was the turn of Colm Og to set up Thalji Al Daher who broke the line and slotted past the keeper making it 0-3 to Rovers at the break.

Rovers got the perfect start to the second half with another combination between Colm Og Breathnach and Thalji Al Daher who finished well.

Rovers did have another chance later on from the penalty spot but went over the bar. Illistrin battled hard to the end and kept but couldn't struggled with the solid defense.

U14 League Cup

Letterkenny Rovers 6 - 0 Mulroy Academy

A tightly fought battle not reflected by the score line between Rovers and Mulroy.

Little separated the teams in goal chances.

Mulroy threatened well and had a number of good scoring opportunities.

Breakthrough for Rovers came from Denzel Taku finishing from edge of the 6 yd box.

Rovers added another just before half time through a solo effort by Colm Og Breathnach.

The scoring chances increased for Rovers in the second half as they continued to apply pressure with Thalji Al Daher, Luke Elliot, Ronan Ward and Ronan Tinney all getting on the scoresheet.

A good strong Seimi final battle just what the team will have wanted in preparation for the final!!.

U14 LEAGUE CUP

Gweedore Celtic 0 - 3 Letterkenny Rovers
It was a good competitive battle by both sides with teams both trying to break through the defensive lines.

Rovers played some great passing moves and started to gain ground while Gweedore always posed a threat on attack. The opening score for Rovers came on the 11th minute when Thalji AlDaher made a solo effort from the left wing getting in to the edge of the 18 yard box and shooting for goal.

The second came just 5 minutes later when a corner by Cristian Evangelista curled low towards the front post was difficult to deal with and resulted in an OG.

the second half seen Rovers continue to work the ball well and creating chances but it wasn't until the last minute of full time when a super ball played from midfield by Adhamhnan Gibson to the right wing behind the defensive line, and Denzel Taku made the run taking it to the back line and putting it across Asme was there to slot it home.

SFAI CUP U14s Last 16.

The draw had the U14s travel to Cork to take on College Corinthians in the SFAI national cup.

Conditions on the day were terrible and the pitch had a lot of surface water which made things difficult for both teams.

It was the home side who got off to the better start scoring after just 5 minutes. The Rovers lads grew into the game had the quality of work was impressive as they tried to find the equalizer. The half ended 1-0 to the Cork side. The second half saw the Letterkenny side continue their efforts and came close twice. As the time was running out they went for it and unfortunately College Corinthians got their second in the last few minutes putting a recovery out of sight with the game ending 2-0.

The Rovers lads put in an massive shift and impressive display. This brings to an end a great season for the boys, as they now switch to focus on getting ready for the 2024 season starting in March.

SFAI U14s Last 32 Letterkenny Rovers 2 - 0 Clonmel Town

Sunday 4th February 2024.

It was very difficult conditions for both sides at Leckview though it did not really offer any advantage to either side as it blew across the pitch.

Rovers had the better of the chances though Clonmel Towns threat was on the counter attack and the crated a few good breaks particularly in the first half.

Rovers had plenty of good chances in the first half from Denzel Akpo, Jack O'Donnell, Colm OgBreathnach, Sean Gallagher and Aki Alleyne, only to be stopped by a very good Clonmel keeper.

The first half it ended 0-0 and Rovers continued to pressure in search of the opening goal as they started the second half.

However it was until the 64th minute with a great strike from Sean Gallagher slipped unto the crossbar giving Rovers the lead.

Clomel fought back quickly and had a great chance from a free kick on the left of the field that crossed the goal going just wide of the right post.

However Rovers sealed the game with a bursting run by Aki as he pushed forward and was one on one with the keeper, his shot was blocked by the Clonmel keeper who had an outstanding game, but the ball fell into the path of Colm Og who wasn't going to miss and stuck it in the net.

Rovers held on for the dying few minutes and deservedly won 2-0 on the day.

Well done lads and good luck in the final 16!!.

It was the last game for Sean Gallagher and Jack O'Donnell with the team, both who have grown up through the club. They are pictured with coaches Joe McLaughlin and Paddy Gorman. Both players are moving to Finn Harps and the coaches, team and club wish both lads the every success for the year ahead.
